Syllabus, outcomes & schedule
College Algebra: illustrative full-course syllabus. Linear and quadratic models with course-aligned prerequisite repair and mastery checks. This short demonstration sequence is not a complete approved curriculum.
Learning outcomes
Build and interpret models; justify quantitative decisions; demonstrate prerequisite skills.
Schedule
Sample term: preparation, sequential course work, feedback and revision, final assessment. Instructor sets dates and pacing.
Sequential course plan
1. Unit 1: Quadratics: build a root model
Factor a quadratic and interpret its roots in a height model.
A model uses h(t) = −t² + 7t − 12. Factor the expression, locate its zeros and explain the interval where h is positive.
Assessment: Course challenges plus instructor-reviewed reasoning and a transfer problem. · 100 sample points
2. Unit 2: Linear functions: calibrate a model
Connect a constant rate, an intercept and a coordinate prediction.
A delivery service charges C(x) = 3x + 8 dollars for x miles. Identify the rate and predict the cost of a trip.
Assessment: Course challenges plus instructor-reviewed reasoning and a transfer problem. · 100 sample points
Sample grading plan
- Assignments · 60%
