Syllabus, outcomes & schedule

Intro Statistics: illustrative full-course syllabus. Probability, center and spread, supported by reusable number and data tools. This short demonstration sequence is not a complete approved curriculum.

Learning outcomes

Build and interpret models; justify quantitative decisions; demonstrate prerequisite skills.

Schedule

Sample term: preparation, sequential course work, feedback and revision, final assessment. Instructor sets dates and pacing.

Sequential course plan

  1. 1. Unit 1: Probability: assemble an event model

Calculate probabilities from a finite sample space.

A bag holds 3 red and 5 blue counters. Draw one counter, replace it, then draw again. Calculate simple and repeated-event probabilities.

Assessment: Course challenges plus instructor-reviewed reasoning and a transfer problem. · 100 sample points

  2. 2. Unit 2: Statistical summaries: inspect a dataset

Compare center and spread using mean, median and range.

Wait times are 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 minutes. Build a summary and decide which measure to report if an extreme delay is added.

Assessment: Course challenges plus instructor-reviewed reasoning and a transfer problem. · 100 sample points

Sample grading plan

  • Assignments · 60%

Quality of course work, with instructor feedback.

  • Assessments · 40%

Final essay portfolio or quantitative transfer assessment.

Credit policy: Institution approval required; no credit is awarded by this demo.

Grading & feedback: Instructor-reviewed sample work; no real grades.
